The Uganda Martyrs were 45 young Christian converts executed between 1885 and 1887 in Buganda (modern-day Uganda) under King Mwanga II, who saw Christianity as a threat. Their steadfast faith led to their deaths, with most being burned alive at Namugongo. Their martyrdom was crucial in the spread of Christianity in Africa. Celebrated as saints in both the Roman Catholic and Anglican Churches, they are honored on June 3rd, which is Martyrs' Day in Uganda.
