Here is an overview of the animal species in this category:

Gorillas are the largest and most powerful of the great apes, sharing 98% of human. There are two species of gorillas: eastern and western, each with two subspecies. Uganda is home to the eastern gorilla, specifically the mountain gorilla (Gorilla beringei beringei) and the eastern lowland gorilla (Gorilla beringei graueri). Mountain gorillas are critically endangered, with only about 900 individuals left in the wild. They live in the high-altitude forests of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Uganda.

Elephants are the largest and heaviest land mammals in the world, weighing over 8 tonnes and sharing 98% of human. There are two species of elephants in Uganda: the African bush elephant (or savannah elephant) and the African forest elephant. The bush elephant is more common and can be found in several national parks across Uganda. Elephants are herbivorous and can consume up to 350 kg of vegetation and 190 litres of water per day

Buffalos are one of the Africa’s big 5 animals, weighing over 680 kilograms and living for around 15-25 years. There are two types of buffalos in Uganda: the small forest buffalos, which are very common in Semliki national park, and the large savannah buffalos, which are found in Murchison falls national park, Kidepo valley, Queen Elizabeth national park, and Lake Mburo national park. Buffalos have thick horns that come out sideways on the top of their skulls. Male and female buffalos both have horns, but the males develop a shield across their foreheads and are significantly larger than the females

Giraffes are the tallest living land animals, with an average height of 5.5 meters and a weight of up to 1,600 kilograms

Kobs are a type of antelope that belong to the same family as impalas, gazelles, and wildebeests. Kobs are medium-sized, with a reddish-brown coat, white underparts, and black markings on the legs, ears, and face, Male kobs have long, curved horns that they use for fighting and defending their territories. Kobs are herbivorous and graze on grasses, herbs, and shrubs. They need to drink water regularly and are often found near rivers and lakes.

Warthogs are comical-looking mammals with over-sized heads, bristly manes, long skinny legs, and protruding tusks. Warthogs are members of the pig family and are herbivorous, feeding on grasses, roots, and bulbs. They use their snouts to dig or “root” for food. Warthogs are social animals and live in groups called “sounders”, consisting of a dominant male and several females and young. Warthogs are common residents of Uganda’s savanna national parks, such as Lake Mburo, Murchison Falls, Queen Elizabeth, and Kidepo Valley.
